A copper button beneath the fuchi (ferrule) must be pressed to withdraw the blade, and the mekugi (peg) can be removed to disassemble the sword.

The saya (scabbard) features a three-layer construction: an iron sheath, a wood core, and a real leather exterior. If the leather case is not needed, the sword can be displayed with just the dark green, frosted iron sheath, which is also highly attractive.
